Introduction

What is Ruminant?

A ruminant is a process of taking food back into the mouth and rechewing. Ruminants include domestic cattle (cows), buffalo, deer, and camels.

The main distinction in a cow’s digestive system or a ruminant digestive system is that the stomach has four separate compartments, each with a unique function, whereas most other animals only have a single compartment with a unified functionality.

  1. Mouth

  2. Stomach

  3. Small Intestine

  4. Large Intestine


So, These are the main constituent of the ruminant digestive system 
of the cattle. The other two components are Cecum and Esophagus.

  1. Rumen

  2. Reticulum

  3. Abomasum

  4. Omasum


So, the Ruminants can be recognized easily because they chew frequently even when not eating.
